How Radiesse is Different

Unlike the more common hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres. This means that it has the ability to trigger brand-new collagen. Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) is a naturally occurring, biodegradable substance. When Radiesse is injected, it acts as a scaffold beneath the skin to provide volume and lift.

What Can Radiesse Do?

  • Lift sagging areas of the face
  • Add volume and improved contour to the face
  • Reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds/marionette lines
  • Define lax jowls, or jowls that are becoming loose
  • Lift the “scowling” corners of the mouth
  • Make aging hands look more youthful

Radiesse Treatment Details

Dr. Lamoureux has vast experience injecting dermal fillers such as Radiesse under the skin to enhance your appearance. She has both an artistic eye and the ability to scan a patient’s face to know where to inject to achieve the most youthful and balanced appearance possible.

Before your Radiesse treatment, your skin will be cleansed and numbed with a topical anesthetic (if needed). Dr. Lamoureux or an aesthetician will use a fine needle to administer the product.

Injections take about 20-30 minutes. Radiesse contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that helps make the injections more comfortable.

Recovery and Results

There is no downtime associated with Radiesse, although some patients see mild bruising, swelling, or redness. More rarely, the treated area may appear overfilled or lumpy—but this is temporary. Results are visible at 1-2 weeks and may last up to a year or longer. At the two-week mark after your treatment, you will have a follow-up appointment in which she will make plans for your next steps to maintain your results.

What are the risks involved with Radiesse?

Dr. Lamoureux devotes significant time and effort into continuing her education on dermal fillers because she wants to fully understand not only all of the new techniques, but also all outcomes and possible risks. With her vast knowledge of anatomy, skill with advanced injection techniques, and use of ancillary tools such as her Accuvein® vein-finding device, she does everything possible to mitigate risk for her patients. She works slowly and methodically to observe tissue response, and checks in frequently with you during the procedure to monitor your comfort.
