Urinary incontinence can be quite a concern. Once the pelvic muscles are weakened, the inability to hold your urine often follows, which can diminish your quality of life. If you notice you’re leaking urine a little when you work out, sneeze, cough, or jump, or you’re finding yourself running to the restroom too often, you may find EMSELLA to be an ideal treatment. Women who have weakened pelvic muscles may additionally experience vaginal laxity, which can also be treated with EMSELLA.

EMSELLA painlessly strengthens and rebuilds the muscles of the pelvic floor, which restores your ability to hold your urine and for women, can tighten their vaginal tissues.

What Causes Urinary Incontinence?

Men and women can experience urinary incontinence for a variety of reasons

  • Aging
  • Menopause
  • Obesity
  • For women: childbirth and menopause
  • For men: prostate cancer, prostate dysfunction.

These factors can cause the pelvic floor muscles to weaken, which means they can’t support the pelvic organs well enough, and urinary incontinence and/or vaginal laxity follow.

What is EMSELLA?

EMSELLA is a safe, FDA-approved, non-invasive device to address weak pelvic floor muscles in order to build and strengthen them again. EMSELLA is a unique, customized chair that emits a high-intensity electromagnetic field that is completely painless. This triggers the motor neurons in the pelvic floor, which repairs and strengthens the muscles of the pelvic floor.

You can remain fully clothed during your EMSELLA experience, which lasts for about 30 minutes, is completely painless, and requires no downtime or recovery period.

200 million people worldwide are affected by urinary incontinence and/or vaginal laxity. If you’re one of them, EMSELLA may be the ideal solution for you.

Benefits of EMSELLA

EMSELLA provides outstanding benefits for patients, including the following:

  • Completely non-invasive, comfortable treatment
  • No need for a recovery period or downtime
  • Treatment allows you to remain fully clothed
  • Improves sexual wellness and vaginal laxity
  • Short procedure time
  • Highly effective (95% of patients report significant improvement in their quality of life)

How Does EMSELLA work?

Once the pelvic floor muscles are weakened by prostate surgery, vaginal childbirth, or other causes, it is extremely difficult to strengthen them again on your own. Kegel exercises can be an effective way to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, but progress tends to be slow, and a lack of results can be frustrating.

The technology EMSELLA uses is called high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology (HIFEM). This technology stimulates the deep muscles on the pelvic floor in a treatment that is about the equivalent of 12,000 Kegel exercises. The tightening of the pelvic floor muscles restores neuromuscular control and muscle firmness/strength.

The results are a dramatic decrease in the urge to use the bathroom constantly, a definite decrease in urine leakage during exercise or sex, and improved vaginal firmness.

Am I a Candidate for EMSELLA?

Men or women who are struggling with mild to moderate bladder leakage may be candidates for EMSELLA. Candidates meet the following requirements:

  • Are generally in good health
  • Are not pregnant
  • Have no metal implants, pacemakers, or other implanted electronic devices
  • Have no anatomical abnormalities
  • Leak urine when they sneeze, cough, or engage in exercise or other rigorous activity
  • Feel a constant need to use the bathroom
  • Can’t always make it to the restroom in time
  • Women: are experiencing vaginal laxity
  • Men: have incontinence after prostate cancer and treatment, sexual dysfunction

What is the Recovery Time After EMSELLA?

There is no recovery period necessary after EMSELLA treatments. The experience is comfortable, although you will feel mild contractions at a fast pace. This sensation is mild enough to allow you to sit back and relax or even read a book or magazine.

EMSELLA Results

You will be able to notice improved bladder control immediately after your treatment. However, for ideal results, we recommend having two sessions a week for four weeks.

Patients may also choose to have maintenance treatments once a month, which is not a required part of your treatment but is a popular option for many patients. We will discuss your condition and options, then design a treatment plan to provide an ideal outcome for you.
