What is Hair Loss?

On average, a person loses 50 –100 hairs per day. Hair loss in excess of that amount or balding in patches on the scalp may be due to other conditions. For both men and women, androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium (TE) are the most common causes of hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness, is caused by genetics. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a hormone found in men and women that is involved in this type of hair loss and shortens the lifespan of each hair follicle. As men and women age, they produce more DHT, causing hair loss or thinning. Other factors can be autoimmune diseases, the effects of drugs or stress, hormone imbalances, giving birth or self-induced reduction of hair. Many of these conditions can be treated and hair can be restored.

How Do You Treat Hair Loss?

Just as there are many causes, there are many treatments for hair loss. Once Dr. Lamoureux understands what is causing the hair loss, she can tell you what to expect. Sometimes hair loss does not need treatment. The hair will start to re-grow on its own. In some cases, changing what you do will stop the hair loss, allowing your hair to start re-growing.

Other times only treatment can restore hair, in this case Dr. Lamoureux recommends treating hair loss early to increase the chances of hair regrowth. At Skin Dermatology, you can be treated with prescription medication, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, and Nutrafol Hair Growth.

What is Nutrafol Hair Growth?

Nutrafol is a daily oral supplement recommended by dermatologists to combat hair thinning, targeting its root causes internally. With its patented Synergen Complex®, Nutrafol offers a unique blend of botanicals designed for both men and women, addressing biological differences. It aims to empower individuals to regain control over their hair health.
