Meet Alissa Lamoureux

Dually board certified in Dermatology by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology and Internal Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Alissa Lamoureux provides comprehensive medical care to her patients by incorporating her strong foundation in Internal Medicine in the care of her Dermatology patients.

Dr. Lamoureux’s Education

Dr. Lamoureux achieved her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi community service-focused honor society and served as the Treasurer of the organization. She also served as the Secretary/ Treasurer of her Medical School class. In addition to her vigorous medical school studies, she participated in many community outreach activities, but most enjoyed the time she spent as a mentor to at-risk youth in the community as she helped provide him tutoring, encouragement, and support.  She also helped organize the first-ever Biddeford Free Clinic Turkey Trot to raise money for the clinic. Before starting Internal Medicine Residency at Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington, Florida, Dr. Lamoureux anticipated that she would complete that medical training first and then go on to specialize in Dermatology. Through the three years as an Internal Medicine Resident, she was humbled each day by the tremendous profession for which she was now part. Caring for patients and participating in the promotion of health was the most rewarding experience.

This residency provided for the fundamentals of patient care, management of disease, and promotion of health. Her leadership, passion and knowledge were recognized by receiving the following notable honors during her training:

  • Intern of the Year
  • Two time Resident of the Year
  • Resident Teacher of the Year
  • Chief Resident in residency years two and three.
  • Sole recipient of the program to be awarded two consecutive grants from the
  • Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine to conduct original research each for the amount of $5000.

A Legacy of Medicine

Dr. Lamoureux’s path toward medicine began years before she took the preparatory courses at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She always knew that one day she would follow in the steps of her grandfather and father, who are both physicians. Upon application to medical school, Dr. Lamoureux was accepted into a competitive medical program at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. She went on to complete two residencies in Florida, where she earned the coveted titles of Chief Resident, Resident of the Year, and Resident Teacher of the Year.


A Passion for Dermatology

While Dr. Lamoureux received numerous accolades as an internal medicine physician, her goal was always to be a dermatologist. Treating skin, after all, is her passion. During her extensive dermatology training at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she worked with world-renowned medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologists, dermatopathologists, plastic surgeons, oncologists, and allergists.

Trained Alongside Experts

Dr. Lamoureux’s residency involved training under some of the foremost experts in various fields of dermatology. She participated in the care of a diverse patient population and learned cutting-edge techniques. She was honored to study dermatopathology and dermatoimmunology, including immunobullous and connective tissue disease under Dr. Carlos Nousari, her program director at Broward Health Medical Center, a dual accredited ACGME Dermatology training program.

As for her dermoscopy training, Dr. Lamoureux had the honor of training under one of the world’s experts and pioneer in dermoscopy, Dr. Harold Rabinovitz. Her cosmetic dermatology training was second to none as she was able to glean incredible knowledge and expertise by training with Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera. She does, however, credit a significant amount of her skills, competence and know-how to her mentor, Dr. Brad Glick, who gave her the opportunity to train in Dermatology.

Skin Dermatology

Her vigorous training and extensive experience equipped her to start her own practice and be a success. A native of New England, Dr. Lamoureux has returned to her hometown of Shrewsbury, MA to provide best-in-class dermatologic care including medical, surgical, and cosmetic services to the greater Worcester area and beyond. 

A Leader in Dermatology 

Dr. Lamoureux has served as a key opinion leader for leading manufacturers of medications for disease states such as psoriasis. Her medical practice has been selected as a Center of Excellence by Lumenis, a best-in-class laser manufacturer, for her knowledge and expertise and skill in using aesthetic lasers. Dr. Lamoureux has been featured as an international speaker to share her experience and insight into telemedicine and teledermatology. She authored an ebook on this topic that was provided across the globe and also spoke internationally in this regard. She was also featured on today.com as an expert on telemedicine and its delivery during the COVID 19 pandemic.  Dr. Lamoureux has been featured twice on local access cable television to speak of the importance of sun safety, skin cancer screenings and to educate the community on services offered by Dermatologists. 

Helping Her Community

Dr. Lamoureux enjoys giving back to her community as a physician. She has volunteered over the years at numerous events including being selected to be the ringside physician at two Junior Olympic Boxing events.  As a volunteer Dermatology specialist at the Caridad Free Care Clinics in Boynton Beach, FL and at the American Academy of Dermatology free skin cancer screening events, she has been able to share expertise and provide much needed skin care exams.  While in Palm Beach, FL, she was an avid volunteer with the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation where she helped educate the community both young and old on the risks of skin cancer and the benefits of vigorous sun protection and skin screenings. 

Dr. Lamoureux’s Work Outside of Dermatology

As a native of the Shrewsbury community, she enjoys giving back there as well. On behalf of Skin Dermatology, Dr. Lamoureux and her family are avid donors to many local charities and organizations and plan to continue to support local groups and community outreach activities. She has participated in the Shrewsbury Fall Festival and Scarecrows on the Common and her family has been featured in the Decided Excellence Publication. Dr. Lamoureux resides in Shrewsbury with her husband Michael and their 2 children, Thomas and Alexandra.
